Little Sister B is nearing the one year mark (how in the world did THAT happen already?) and it she is getting ready to start drinking out of a cup. Big Sister E has become much better at drinking from a "big girl" glass but still loves straw cups and sippies and they are definitely the most convenient for when we go places. Wouldn't it be great if there was one cup that I could use for both of them? Something that would transition all the way from baby to toddlerhood to preschooler and beyond? Fortunately for me, The Safe Sippy2 from Kid Basix is the cup that tops all the rest.
In response to the ever-growing concern over the harmful chemicals in plastics, Kid Basix created the original stainless steel Safe Sippy and revolutionized the options parents had in safe drinking ware for kids. Non-leaching and toxin-free, the Safe Sippy is free of all BPA and phthalates and even has a straw-shaped spout so as to not hinder physical and speech development like research has shown traditional wide sippy spouts may.
Along with the great features of the Safe Sippy, the Safe Sippy2 includes a dust cap, travel plug and straw with straw adaptor. I love the dust cap for obvious reasons. Have you seen what's on our floor? Or under the car seat? Or wherever else this cup might get placed? The travel plug can be used inside the cup for times that it is going to be tossed in a bag and you want to be certain no liquid will leak out. I haven't used the travel plug because I have yet to have any leaks with our Safe Sippy2, even when held upside down.
However, the straw and straw adaptor are my favorite new features. Big Sister E has always liked straw cups and being able to use the Safe Sippy2 this way is like music to her ears (and mine). However, when she decides she wants a sippy, it hardly takes a second to unscrew the top, change the insert and it's ready for her.
As for Little Sister B, as she gets more and more used to drinking out of a cup, I love having the option of turning the Safe Sippy2 back and forth from a sippy to a straw cup depending on what seems to be working for her. The handles can be left on or easily removed and the tapered, ribbed waist is easy to hold and is covered with an insulated sleeve to keep little hands from getting cold no matter what liquid is inside. This cup will last her from now until... well, pretty much until she swears off cups with lids forever. When is that? 18?
Not wanting to leave out older kids or adults, Kid Basix also offers their Safe Sporter, a sports bottle available in both 12 oz and 16 oz sizes.
Featuring the same great stainless steel as their other products, Kid Basix created the Safe Sporter not only with a rubber sleeve to keep your hands from getting cold but with a matching plastic bottom that acts as a coaster. What a great idea! Use this in the car or out for a walk with your stroller (it fits right into a cup holder) or on your coffee table (the coaster! How cool!) and you're set. The wide mouth is great for cleaning as well as large enough to drop in ice cubes and I love that the mud cap on the top is attached so that people like me don't instantly lose it.
The final item in the Kid Basix line is the Safe Starter, a baby bottle that I would have loved to use when my girls were small. The stainless steel completely eliminates the debate between glass bottles (what if they break?) and plastic bottles (the chemicals!) while the silicone sleeve actually insulates the contents for you. It even comes with a storage disc so that your baby's liquid can be stored directly in the bottle until it is time for a drink.
It took one father to search for a way to give his son a drink in something other than a cup made out of toxic chemicals and now Kid Basix products are sold online and at retail locations all over the world. Their philosophy is "making kids' lives better" and for Big Sister E, Little Sister B and me, they have definitely succeeded.
Want to make your kid's life better? And your own? Thanks to the generosity of Kid Basix...

I learned that their products are manufactured in China. We have done everything to ensure our factories, worker conditions and products are up to our standards. To do so, we visit our factories frequently. The factories are very clean, orderly and humane. Most importantly, they are ISO (International Standards of Operation) certified which is very difficult to attain and comes from an outside agency that audits for manufacturing processes and standards. amypugmire@live.com

With frequent use, small spots of rust may show up. This doesn't mean that your cup will shortly turn into a flaking pile of rust. Well that's sure glad to know uh?
