For me, the words "portion control" or "calorie counting" or "serving size" might as well be in a foreign language. When foods I enjoy are in front of me, my mouth waters and my eyes widen. I pile my plate high with the full intention of clearing it clean... which, unfortunately, usually happens.
Of course I know that my 3-year-old and I shouldn't be able to finish an entire box of macaroni and cheese ourselves (which may have happened a time or two), but when the food is on my plate, I just can't NOT eat it.
We had pasta for dinner recently and, after dishing up the noodles onto a plate, I found that a typical amount that my husband or I would portion out looks like this:
Considering that the amount of cooked pasta in one serving is actually HALF OF A CUP, I stood there looking at that plate of linguine wondering just how many servings I usually eat at a time.
Shaking my head at the thought, I handed the plate over to my husband and reached for the most innovative, easy-to-use, fool-proof portion control product that I have ever come across: the Measure Up Bowl.
I did then compare the portion on the plate to the one in the Measure Up Bowl and it was at least double. And I wonder why the pounds won't come off?
Fully taking the guesswork out of counting calories, all that is required for using the Measure Up Bowl is to EAT OUT OF IT. The pre-measured markings on the inside of the bowl tell you exactly how much to put in it, so no matter if you are sitting down with pasta, rice or ice cream, you'll know how much is enough.
So, whether you are just setting your weight loss goals and want a simple way to begin achieving them or if you have lost weight and want a way to keep it from coming back, Measure Up Bowls are convenient tools to have on hand. The sturdy porcelain is even safe for both the microwave and the dishwasher, so there really is no extra work or changes that you have to make to move towards a healthier lifestyle with correct portion sizes.
Available in the Classic size, containing servings between half a cup and two cups, and the Small size, with a range between one fourth and three fourths of a cup for foods that are higher in fat, Measure Up Bowls aren't just another quick fix. Nor are they an embarrassingly large bulky contraption (like I've seen) used to determine portions. In fact, I think the Measure Up Bowls are attractive and modern and, since the cute box they arrive in has a chart with recommended serving sizes right on it, you can begin using them almost immediately.
I'd like to blame the fact that I can't recognize a normal serving amount on restaurants and their huge portions, but I can't ignore the size of my own dinner plates at home. As with my linguine up above, I just don't know how much to dish out. Thanks to Heather Harvey, creator of the Measure Up Bowl (and proof that they work, as she looks amazing after having lost 80 pounds by using them - I've seen her in person!), I no longer have to guess. These bowls are the answer to a healthier life!
Measure Up Bowls are available directly off of the website, from Target.com or on Delight.com - plenty of shopping options! Plus, thanks to Heather's generosity, one person will also get to experience the ease of portion control with the Measure Up Bowl, because...

A favorite of mine that I have portion control issues is mashed potatoes.
That snack foods should be enjoyed in the small bowl- or in smaller portions, yep that's a hard one for me :)

I'm probably eating way more cereal then I should be so that would be helpful to know how to portion out.

I really like the measure up journal.
The small Measure Up Bowl is perfect for high fat, calorie dense foods such as chips, ice cream, nuts, and granola.

I am HORRIBLE at measuring pasta (and ice cream!)! really trying to lose weight and be more accountable for my calorie consumption. Been looking at these bowls!
http://twitter.com/Lisssa20
What a neat idea, and I like how clean and modern the design is.
I learned that it is great for calorie dense foods like granola, which I have started eating a lot of to be healthier. I wonder if I am eating too much per serving now!
The food I would most need it for is rice. I am terrible at portioning rice. I just love it so much.
