As with every year, this spring I said that the kids and I were going to start a garden... and it didn't happen.
I like the idea of it all (having fresh vegetables or beautiful flowers right in the yard), it just seems that the actual work of it manages to get in the way. Not only am I never going to keep up with pulling weeds or keeping animals out, I know that I wouldn't even remember to water often enough to keep things alive.
Clearly, I don't have a green thumb. Is there such a thing as a lazy thumb?
Fortunately, this year things have still been going my way thanks to Plow & Hearth and their innovative, stylish, and convenient Lexington Self-Watering Planters.
After looking at the pictures of the Lexington planters and window boxes, I had a hard time believing that they weren't actually wooden. Made exclusively in the USA, the traditional look is actually an all season high-grade polyethylene that is able to provide long-lasting beauty, durability and quality.
But more than just a planter, these black, green or white square or rectangle containers are double walled and feature a sub-irrigation water reservoir. Simply fill them with water and your plants will water themselves!
Considering I was excited that Plow & Hearth was taking care of most of my gardening laziness, I couldn't wait to see the 14" square white Lexington Planter when it arrived.
Even up close I thought this looked like wood! However, as soon as I lifted it and found that this planter is extremely light and easy to move around, it was clear that it was even better.
Peeking inside, I took a look at the water reservoir (or what I like to think of as the "magic section") portion of the innovative design:
Using the clear, easy-to-follow instructions, getting the Lexington Self-Watering Planter set up and ready to go took almost no time at all.
Simply fill the bottom with water until the water begins to come out of the overflow hole...
...add in a layer of lightweight filler (I used some recyclables like cans and bottles), and cover with potting mix. Considering that Big Sister E and Little Sister B had recently attended an event where they came home with small tomato plants, I knew that they would be excited to see them grow and flourish in this planter.
I know there is room for more than two small plants in there, but I thought I'd give these a shot first to see how things went. I'm a lazy gardener, remember?
There's really nothing else to it! I love that there is no maintenance to this good-looking container, yet my tomato plants are still doing great. The Self-Watering Planter makes it so easy to have the beautiful results of flowers or the tasty results of our future tomatoes all right there in one sturdy, safe place.
I haven't done a single thing to these plants for at little while now and they look like they're thriving to me - so they must be taking advantage of being able to get just the right amount of water on their own!
The Lexington Self-Watering Planters are a great example of the unique, quality-built home and lifestyle products that Plow & Hearth offers... and 100% guarantees that you will enjoy. With everything you need for your home, hearth, yard, and garden, this summer Plow & Hearth is a great place to shop for indoors, outdoors, gifts, and more.
Retailing for $79.95 for the 14" square planter (and up to $149.95 for a 4' window box), a Lexington Self-Watering Planter is an item that can be used year after year to add beauty to your home. Decorate a porch or deck, liven up your yard or add a gorgeous touch to your entryway - you can't go wrong because the container will do the work for you!
Thanks to the generosity of Plow & Hearth, one person will be able to choose their favorite functional, decorative, and innovative product to enjoy this summer as well, because...
