I may have just forgotten (repressed?) the more difficult aspects, but potty training with Big Sister E wasn't all that hard of a process.
I remember just knowing that she was ready, talking to her about how the store was no longer going to let us buy diapers for her because she was a big girl, and finishing with my pièce de résistance: a No More Diapers Party.
Of course we weren't completely accident-free after that, but mainly we moved forward and never looked back. So... here we are two years later with Little Sister B and why does the situation seem so much more bleak?
She understands the concept, she has used the potty before, but somehow we're just not there yet. We haven't had the Party, so all hope isn't lost, but for now I think we just need a little more incentive to let her know that ditching the diapers is the cool thing to do.
Fortunately, Target and Pull-Ups have teamed up to surprise kids with the coolest of rewards when they successfully use the potty: Disney Character Calls. Who wouldn't want to continue being a big kid when a Disney Princess or a Disney/Pixar Cars character calls to say congratulations on their accomplishment?!
Designed to assist moms through their child’s potty training and development, the Huggies Pull-Ups training pants and Target exclusive program offering a Disney Character Call is free for anyone and everyone.
Simply visit BigKidCalls.com (or BigKids.mobi on your mobile phone) and sign up to have your choice of character send a congratulatory call to your child for successfully using the potty. After choosing between Cars or Princesses, you have the option of listening to the messages directly from the site immediately or scheduling them to call you for a more realistic experience.
We got started by heading to Target and checking out the great varieties of Pull-Ups for my big kid.
Even though Little Sister B loves Disney Princesses and Disney/Pixar Cars equally, we ended up going with all things girly for my little princess.
Pull-Ups are a great way to transition from diapers to underwear and I'm hoping that as we continue to use these great training pants that we'll get through potty training sooner rather than later!
But of course a little encouragement doesn't hurt, right? Waiting until we had a successful trip to the potty, it only took me a minute or two to quickly schedule a call to my cell phone (you have to reply to their text to confirm, so a landline won't work for these calls) and tell Little Sister B that someone special wanted to tell her what a good job she had done.
When the phone rang, I handed it over and she was pretty excited to hear the sound of a princess on the other end...
Definitely a fun surprise! For a very cool way to reward your child for going potty, don't miss Target and Pull-Ups offering free Big Kid Calls today!
And, thanks to their generosity, one person will be able to head to Target and pick up Pull-Ups to help with their potty training progress as well, because...
One lucky person will win a $25 Target gift card from Huggies

The simplest but most effective tip I ever got was to use ourselves and the kids' older siblings as role models to teach the young ones to learn to use the potty. Role models who show them exactly how it's done and offer positive reinforcement are the best training tool!

None of the tips and tricks worked for us. But keeping at it, not giving up and not getting mad at her when she messed up seemed to finally work.
my best potty tip is to stay home for at least 3 days with your child... leave them in underpants all day and night so they can "feel" the result when they pee or poop.... and cover the floor with pool towels and their bed with waterproof pads.

put a book by the potty that your child loves to read. change it up frequently and they will want to go in and check on the book and doing some potty reading while they are in there.
im having a hard time with potty training, but I think whats workign best for us is peeking interest by using rewards.

My best potty training tip is to be flexible! Each child is unique and will be motivated differently. My oldest just needed the basic instruction while my youngest needed a rewards-based system. Hang in there!
The best tip is not to force potty training before your child is ready.

Start as early as possible. The younger the better because then you can treat it as a game. And it will become something natural to them as opposed to something they'll have to learn. When you know it's around the time of the day that your child is going to poop, take him/her to the bathroom with you. Set up their own potty next to the toilet. You sit on the toilet as he/she does on his/hers. Even take your little one in with you when you have to go. They'll get used to the routine, and will be potty trained quickly. All three of my girls were completely potty trained with no accidents this way before their 2nd birthday.
