Target and Huggies Pull-Ups Disney Character Calls for Potty Training Success! {$25 Target Gift Card Giveaway}

{This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, ckfrrt!}

I may have just forgotten (repressed?) the more difficult aspects, but potty training with Big Sister E wasn't all that hard of a process.

I remember just knowing that she was ready, talking to her about how the store was no longer going to let us buy diapers for her because she was a big girl, and finishing with my pièce de résistance: a No More Diapers Party.

Of course we weren't completely accident-free after that, but mainly we moved forward and never looked back. So... here we are two years later with Little Sister B and why does the situation seem so much more bleak?

She understands the concept, she has used the potty before, but somehow we're just not there yet. We haven't had the Party, so all hope isn't lost, but for now I think we just need a little more incentive to let her know that ditching the diapers is the cool thing to do.

Fortunately, Target and Pull-Ups have teamed up to surprise kids with the coolest of rewards when they successfully use the potty: Disney Character Calls. Who wouldn't want to continue being a big kid when a Disney Princess or a Disney/Pixar Cars character calls to say congratulations on their accomplishment?!

Designed to assist moms through their child’s potty training and development, the Huggies Pull-Ups training pants and Target exclusive program offering a Disney Character Call is free for anyone and everyone.

Simply visit BigKidCalls.com (or BigKids.mobi on your mobile phone) and sign up to have your choice of character send a congratulatory call to your child for successfully using the potty. After choosing between Cars or Princesses, you have the option of listening to the messages directly from the site immediately or scheduling them to call you for a more realistic experience.

We got started by heading to Target and checking out the great varieties of Pull-Ups for my big kid.

Even though Little Sister B loves Disney Princesses and Disney/Pixar Cars equally, we ended up going with all things girly for my little princess.

Pull-Ups are a great way to transition from diapers to underwear and I'm hoping that as we continue to use these great training pants that we'll get through potty training sooner rather than later!

But of course a little encouragement doesn't hurt, right? Waiting until we had a successful trip to the potty, it only took me a minute or two to quickly schedule a call to my cell phone (you have to reply to their text to confirm, so a landline won't work for these calls) and tell Little Sister B that someone special wanted to tell her what a good job she had done.

When the phone rang, I handed it over and she was pretty excited to hear the sound of a princess on the other end...

Definitely a fun surprise! For a very cool way to reward your child for going potty, don't miss Target and Pull-Ups offering free Big Kid Calls today!

And, thanks to their generosity, one person will be able to head to Target and pick up Pull-Ups to help with their potty training progress as well, because...

One lucky person will win a $25 Target gift card from Huggies
to purchase your own Pull-Ups!

I find telling them they get big girl/boy pants in 7, 6, 5....days gets them excited. When the weeklong countdown is over, put them in underwear and be patient with the accidents. They will learn pretty quickly this way.

My only two tips (the only things that worked for my daughter) is (A) the sticker chart and (B) TONS of praises!!! I mean every single time up until they have been potty trained for awhile. I still praise my daughter almost every time and she's been fully potty trained for about 9 months.

My daughter was NEVER going to get potty trained. My neighbor suggested bribing her with Hersheys Kisses. So every hour, she would sit on the potty for 5 minutes or until she went - whichever came first - and then she got a Kiss.
Much to my amazement, it worked!

Wait until your little one is ready for the potty. I would never rush potty training.

Okay, this is seriously going to sound silly, but here is one thing that I did.

To simulate my sons small bladder, I started drinking a glass of water every hour or so to make myself have to go often (it turned into me drinking a glass of water after every time I went to the bathroom).
Then, every time I needed to go, I announced it. Not specifically to my son, just to the room we were in in general. If he responded, I'd suggest racing to the potty, or tell him I was going to use his, or something silly and he would usually want to go with me.
Whether he joined or not I'd enthusiastically congratulate myself and if he was paying attention I'd give myself a potty treat (one of each color of the mini m&ms). If he joined me I did the same for him. It worked really well and after a few days of that he was pretty much trained (at 2 1/2).
Drinking all that water had the added bonus of making my skin nicer, lol and who wants to turn down chocolate?

For my child, I heard that before disposable diapers, 18 months was normal in USA, and wondered what's the fuss with having to wait til after 2? So I tried it around 20 months, and it was going okay, then I stopped for several months because of moving, and I wish I had kept it up, because, now, after 2 years, she's independent and it appears that it's gonna be when she feels like it. So, that's what we have to contend with after 2 years--independence, which can hamper training. So, I would say don't be afraid to try it out before 2. The "readiness" cues may be different for every age.

It sounds silly but my son loved matchbox cars so I designated one to go to the potty every time I put little man on it. Then I'd make a big deal of the little potty car, hahaa, and he loved it. The one time I didn't take it he totally knew and asked me to go get it.

If you know they know how to use the potty, but just prefer to do it in a pull-up, put them in underwear and let them experience a mess. Some kids don't care, and you can put them back in pull-ups real quick. But if they are the type that does and if they're ready, they'll start using the potty after one accident in their underwear. (From experience with raising 3 boys).
