The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure DVD {Review}

As much as I'm interested in the new characters and shows that my children discover and enjoy, there is always something to be said about the classics. Who doesn't have their own memories of much-loved cartoons that they want to pass on to their kids?

That's why when I heard that The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure is now available on DVD from Warner Home Video, I knew that it would bring fun and entertainment for all of us!

Featuring 10 episodes from the hit 80's Saturday morning cartoon series, The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure stars everyone's favorite Smurfs, including Lazy, Brainy, Smurfette, Hefty, Clumsy, Papa Smurf and others in a set of adventures that are sure to make any fan, new or old, smile.

This group of mushroom home-dwelling small blue creatures is lead by 543-year-old Papa Smurf, who keeps them out of harm from the villainous Gargamel. This evil wizard spends his days with his cat, Azrael, trying to capture the Smurfs for any number of dastardly reasons and it's easy to get caught up cheering on the Smurfs as they defeat his plans.

The 10 entertaining episodes included are:
  • Smurf Van Winkle – Lazy is tricked into believing he’s slept his life away.
  • Revenge of the Smurfs – The Smurfs try to get even with an army that’s stormed their village.
  • Magic Fountain – The Smurfs search for a magic fountain.
  • Smurf Me No Flowers – Lazy is led to believe he has only a few days to live.
  • The Cursed Country – An evil master captures Smurfs to work in his diamond mine.
  • The Blue Plague - Brainy gives the Smurfs a meal that makes them feel like chickens.
  • The Ring of Castellac – The Smurfs return a drugged duke to his rightful place.
  • A Mere Truffle – Tracker loses his memory while leading the Smurfs on a truffle hunt.
  • Gormandizing Greedy – Greedy gains weight after a diet of sweets and desserts.
  • Sister Smurf – Smurfette and a young girl are held captive by an old hag.
About this DVD, Jeff Brown, Warner Home Video Executive Vice President and GM of Non-Theatrical Franchise had this to say, "Fans have eagerly been awaiting another installment of The Smurfs on DVD and we are delighted to bring them another volume of this classic cartoon this summer.

"The Smurfs
remain immensely popular decade after decade because the universal messages of love, friendship and respect that they impart in each of their episodes are timeless. Those who grew up with The Smurfs on TV in the ‘80s are now eager to pass the joy they experienced while watching this series onto to today’s younger generations."

I couldn't agree more! Seeing this DVD brought back a lot of fun memories for me and being able to extend that to my own children made it even better. What a great way to infuse the positive messages imparted on my childhood with something that my kids can enjoy watching at home or in the car.

Retailing for $19.97 (or on Amazon for $15.99), The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure is available now for all of us children of the 80's to relive this Emmy Award-winning series!

(Other than the DVD copy of The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure that I was sent from Warner Home Video, I was not provided with anything or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my opinion of this series and DVD.)

So it still translates after all these years? Pretty cool.
