Of all of the bothersome things that might happen in my day - raining when we want to play outside, telemarketers (or worse: solicitors) trying to sell me something, a pesky fly that somehow makes it inside during the three seconds that the door is open, etc - knowing that dinnertime is coming and I have nothing planned ranks right up there amongst the most annoying.
However, one thing that always helps? Knowing that I'm not the only one experiencing the challenges that arrive around 5 or 6 p.m... which is exactly where Ragu and Mom's the Word on Dinner arrives to ease the stress for all of us.
An online community from Ragu where moms go to laugh, learn, share ideas and talk about what truly happens at dinnertime, Mom's the Word on Dinner has something for everyone. Whether you need some advice on getting a picky eater to finish their vegetables, just want to vent about last night's dinner disaster or are looking for tips that have been tried and proven, this is the place to visit.
Not only is it easy to join in on the fun conversations (surrounding topics like dinner inspiration, table manners, special memories and more), but the Mom's the Word on Dinner community has featured various videos, photos, polls and recipes since its inception.
One especially great one? The video conversation on "When dinner gets tough..." and the compromises that we all make when our table contains diners of different ages, different needs, different energy levels and more. One great tip included is from parenting expert and author, Dr. Michele Borba, who says, "Give a little leeway. You can use compromise as a tactic to your favor, e.g.: 'Do you want to eat your spaghetti or salad first?' 'Do you want your vegetables cooked or raw?' Just offer choices that you feel comfortable with."
It's definitely a conversation that is not to be missed!
What do you think? Do you have tips and tricks up your sleeve to pull out when dinner gets tough? Make sure to head over to Mom's the Word on Dinner and join in and share them (and pick up some new ones)!
As well as hosting a fun and engaging community, Ragu also wants to help one lucky person have dinner on them, because...

My best tip is to menu plan. Take a few minutes at the beginning of each week to figure out what to have each night, and it will be sooo much easier.

One of my favorite quick dinners for tough days is an alfredo chicken casserole. Spaghetti, chicken (sauteed with butter), topped with alfredo sauce...baked until it's hot. Quick, easy and delicious.

The best thing for when dinner is a hassle (for whatever reason) is to have some good (for you & tasty) meals in the freezer that just need to be pulled out and heated.

We could really benefit by having some advice on how to incorporate more healthy veggies into our dinner. Tasty ones, especially. My husband prefers the starchy vegetables and he does some of the cooking, so on those nights, our whole plates are the same color - yellowish/creamy/white/brown. It's kind of funny, but our bodies don't think so!

mix the veggies, cream of chicken and cut up chicken together place in a 2 quart dish ontop of one of the pie crust and then cover the dish with the other pie crust. bake until golden brown and YUMMY dinner in 15 minutes or less!
