From always carrying around a Band-Aid in case of a scrape to pulling out hand sanitizer to ward away germs to installing only the best car seats, parents continually have the safety of their children on their mind.
But just as much as the idea of driving down the block with your child not securely strapped in sounds laughable, this year Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs want us to take a vital step to keep our kids safe at home as well with the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery campaign.
With Daylight Savings time ending on November 6 this year, it is not only when we should change our clocks back but also the perfect time for families to adopt a life-saving habit: changing the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
The message is simple and the habit can be lifesaving. Thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes without working smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate. Don't be another statistic!
"Each year, thousands of lives are forever changed due to the devastating effects of a home fire," said Chief Al H. Gillespie, president and chairman of the board of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. "A working smoke alarm is an important defense for surviving a home fire. That's why public information and education efforts being undertaken by fire departments with the support of Energizer is a vital component to keeping communities across the nation safe and sound."
So what can you do to help? Head over to the Energizer Facebook page and join the Energizer Bunny Brigade!
As part of the Energizer Bunny Brigade, you'll have a chance to win free smoke alarms and batteries for your home or a grand prize of a home fire safety makeover while RSVP'ing to change your own battery on November 6. What a fun way to get people thinking about an important topic – home fire safety – and sharing positivity within their communities.
Firefighters are already working tirelessly to help reduce the risk factors by educating their residents on the importance of having a working smoke alarm, so by joining the Energizer Bunny Brigade and supporting the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program, you'll be helping make a difference.
Don't let another season go by without checking your smoke alarm and changing the battery! This year use the extra hour "gained" to remind your friends, family and neighbors of this life-saving habit and join Energizer in promoting this important fire safety method.
And, thanks to their generosity, one person will be able to be fully prepared for safety because...
One lucky person will win a new smoke alarm equipped

I change the batteries when the time changes.
If it beeps, it gets changed. Squeaky-wheel method, I guess.

I don't change my smoke detector batteries very often. I will do so with Daylight Savings this year.

I joined the Energizer Bunny Brigade.
When the beeping noise starts on our smoke detector, we change the battery. We don't change it at Daylight Savings Time change.
