There are a lot of great toys out there for kids, there's no denying that. There are games, puzzles, toys for outdoor play and ones for quiet imaginative play, things to play in the water or toys made to travel... it's really a good time to be a kid, isn't it?
But one group of toys that holds a high level of importance has always been the wooden toys. There is something about the classic, elegance of a simple piece of wood that has been turned into something that can inspire creativity, learning and entertainment time and time again.
Around here we know full well that one of the top names that we turn to when we're looking for a toy that will provide all of that and more is Maukilo.com and their incredible selection of products by HABA.
When it comes to unique, high quality toys and gifts, Maukilo is unmatched in selection. Whimsical and innovative, their baby toys and toddler toys reflect their values of staying playful and environmentally-friendly.
Owned by HABA, the German-based forerunner of wooden kids toys, Maukilo has always offered a variety of European toys that serve to educate and inspire children throughout the years. Designed with creativity and incomparable durability, with Maukilo products you can truly Buy Once, Play Forever.
Having thoroughly enjoyed our past experiences with Maukilo and HABA, I had no doubt that the Rainbow Whirls Pegging Game was going to be just as high quality and fun.
After opening the box, I immediately felt as though I wanted a turn stacking and playing with the 32 pegs and rings on the beech wood board.
Who can resist those great colors?
As well as the bright pegs and rings (colored with non-toxic water based stain, so it is completely safe), I noticed that HABA had added thick pads on the bottom of the wooden board so that there was no worry of tables being scratched or it sliding around while kids were trying to play.
There really is no right or wrong to this toy and there isn't a limit on the number of creative stacking variations that a child can build and rebuild time and time again. Match the colors, contrast them, stack multiple rings... at first glance you might think that the Rainbow Whirls Pegging Game wouldn't hold that much interest, but it truly does.
Even though the age range for this toy starts at 2 and up, Big Sister E (at age 5) was drawn immediately to it and loved moving each peg around and neatly matching it with the same color ring.
While Little Sister B (at nearly 3) took a more relaxed approach and mixed the colors to create an abstract piece.
I've loved watching both girls play with the Rainbow Whirls Pegging Game time and time again, as they seem to come up with different ideas of how to do each aspect. Whereas Big Sister E places each peg and then drops the ring around it after, Little Sister B puts the two together prior to placing them on the board.
They've both tried stacking multiple rings on one peg, therefore making it possible to add another peg and continue the tower and they both don't seem to appreciate it when Mommy attempts to join in while they're constructing. Who knew? Little Sister B put a stop to that, however, by being so enamored with this toy and its multiple uses that she took it directly to her room to explore it even further (and without my interruption).
Retailing for $31.49 from Maukilo, the Rainbow Whirls Pegging Game is a great way to provide open-ended, creative, free play time - something that should definitely be a part of childhood. The quality construction and the bright colors ensure that this is an item that will last for years and bring a smile to the face of kids of all ages.

(Other than the Rainbow Whirls Pegging Game that I was sent by Maukilo, I was not provided with anything or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my opinion of this company and their high quality products.)

I have that game, and there is no way to appreciate how vibrant the colors are until you see them in person. I absolutely love this toy!
