When it comes to making selections for your baby (or as a gift) it's hard to deny that the options are often overwhelming. From the first time that I strolled down the baby aisle, I was bewildered by the sheer number of things that were available. Does a tiny infant really need all this?

As time has passed and I've had two children of my own, the answer is no. When it comes down to it, all the bells and whistles can be nice, but your child truly just needs the essentials and a whole lot of love. After having been introduced to Bebe au Lait's Lille collection at the ABC Kids Expo this year, I already knew that this collection of matching items was colorful, playful and appealing to modern parents. And then when an Everyday Luxury Blanket arrived so that I could really see it in person, there was definitely no doubt that this is one brand that knows how to mix opulence with practicality.

One of the most splendidly plush blankets I've run my hands across, it didn't take long before I realized why Bebe au Lait had included the word Luxury in the title of this item. As I removed it from the packaging, I initially looked at the folded result and wondered if this was going to be more of a lovey (small) blankie rather than one that could really be used for warmth.

However, once I unfolded it to the full 28" x 36", I realized that it was not only a great, generous size, but that it is made to conveniently fold or roll up small enough that it won't take up too much space in a diaper bag, under a stroller or simply coming along in the car.

The 100% polyester velour feels elegant and soft, while the 100% cotton trim features a fun and cute swirls pattern that is the right amount of girl without screaming girly (this blanket also comes in more masculine colors as well as two fish and cityscape designs). I have never been a fan of cutesy characters or lacy ruffles, so I appreciate that Lille items are more modern with clean lines and an all-over appeal.

Machine washable and tumble dried, this blanket is sure to be an instant hit with any young child in your life (or one that is soon to be arriving). Every new baby needs a soft, warm, cozy blanket to cuddle and love and this will surely be that treasured item for years to come.

Available on the Bebe au Lait website or in stores nationwide, the Everyday Luxury Blanket retails for $45. Although this is a little higher cost than those that you might find in a big box store, I believe that this is a case where you will get what you pay for in terms of quality and long-lasting use. They're just so luxuriously plush that you're going to want to pick up one for yourself as well!
