Zillionz Talking Cash Register {Review}

Zillionz logoOf all of the things that my kids like to play and do, the ones that I find the most ironic are the things that we as adults think of as chores. From sweeping the floor to pulling weeds, my girls are often a little overeager to help out.

I'm not sure when I'll stop being surprised when Big Sister E jumps at the chance to help wash dishes. Probably about the time that she wises up and stops doing it.

So when it came time to check out the 3 Language Talking Cash Register from Zillionz, I had no doubt that it would be a huge hit for any child that loves to do work!

A talking, counting, scanning, amplifying, calculating machine, this Talking Cash Register just about does it all. From the handheld scanner to the loudspeaker microphone to the running tally as prices are rung up, the only thing missing is a stack of coupons and we'd be at the grocery store itself.

From the minute I had this out of the box, I could see that Zillionz had gone above and beyond to add features and details to this toy to ensure that kids would love playing with it while also providing educational value.

Right on the front of the register, the switch to change between English, Spanish and French is easily accessible so it's never a problem to flip back and forth to help teach your child to count in a different language. The talking keypad clearly announces any entries and totals while the digital display shows them.

At the same time the keypad features a working calculator, so older children can practice their subtraction, multiplication and division along with the addition that comes with "purchasing" another item.

Of course it's easy to type in the price, but what real cashier does that? Instead, the handheld scanner not only beeps like I've seen other toys registers do, but it lights up and really reads the included barcode stickers!

Simply press on the lever and the lights shine for a few short seconds...

...which is just enough to point them at the Zillionz barcodes, which kids could stick to any of their play food, toys or anything else that might be sold in their store.

Although the individual barcodes are designed to provide a particular price each time (ranging from 99¢ to $49.99), I did find that ours seemed to result in somewhat random readouts instead. For my kids, ages 5 and 3, that won't matter and the fact that the register responds to them will be entertaining enough. However, if this was a gift for an older child, I can see how that might be frustrating for them.

But when it comes to finding the price for an item, no cash register could be without the loudspeaker to make the classic "price check!" call. Zillionz not only included a microphone for show, but it really works as well. One press of the MIC button and your voice is amplified for the entire store to hear.

When it comes time to pay for purchases, the Zillionz Talking Cash Register comes with a selection of play bills and coins. At the same time, the register drawer is large enough that real money could also be stored inside, giving it a second use as a piggy bank of sorts... and making the "ca-ching!" noise when it opens even more appropriate.

Of course, for today's savvy young shoppers, cash isn't always the most convenient option and the Zillionz credit card is there for even more fun. Sliding it in the slot at the top of the register, the cheerful voice calls out, "Credit approved!" each time.

Developed to help assist children in understanding and appreciating the value of a dollar, the 3 Language Talking Cash Register is one of a selection of great products by Zillionz (created by Summit Toys). Whenever I can let my daughters play with an item that they adore while also helping teach them practical, real world skills, it just seems like a win-win situation all around.

This high quality, educational, entertaining toy is going to be a part of quite a few imaginative, creative stories for one of my children, both of them together, or with many friends in upcoming years. Although it has no off switch (it turns off automatically after one minute with a friendly, "Thank you, come again. Goodbye!") I have a hard time seeing it being left unused for any extended period of time anyway.

Retailing for $39.99 from Zillionz or on Amazon, the Talking Cash Register is one holiday gift that is sure to be played with all year round. Visit Summit Toys to see their whole line of innovative and unique products and keep up with Zillionz on Facebook and Twitter as well.

(Other than the Zillionz Talking Cash Register that I was sent from Summit Toys in conjunction with my membership to Team Mom, I was not provided with anything or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my opinion of this unique and fun product.)

Sorry folks, I don't have any information about replacement barcodes. I would try contacting Zillionz/Summit Toys through their website, Facebook or Twitter. Good luck!
