Ubbi Diaper Pail {Review & Giveaway}

From the time that my girls were little, I came up with a rule stating that Daddy was in charge of all diaper changes on the weekends. Considering that I was up to my elbows in dirty diapers all week long, it seemed only fair that he should have two days of dealing with the pleasantries that came along with it all to himself.

As well as the actual diaper change, the main aspect that always made me want to turn and run was the dreaded smell that made me feel sick. Not necessarily from the diaper itself (although I think we can all agree that's never a pleasantry) but the days-old reek from the diaper pail.

The traditional diaper pail requires a lot of bending, shoving, twisting and effort... and it was always all performed while holding my breath. Even so, the gagging (and nose-plugging) that followed was pretty much unavoidable. What else is there to do?

These days there is a better option and it lies in the high quality, simple, convenient, eco-friendly Ubbi Diaper Pail.

Standing 23" tall, I love that the Ubbi Diaper Pail uses standard kitchen bags, as that eliminates the need to continue to spend money on expensive refill cartridges (and install them correctly). Simply pull out your regular tall kitchen garbage bag and place it right inside.

After lifting up the lid, the plastic arm in the middle can be raised to help get your bag in place (and for later on when it comes time to empty the Diaper Pail)...

...and the bag is simply threaded through the middle of the hole.

After tucking the edges around the sides and making sure that the front of the bag is in place between hook/holder...

...you're prepared for odor-free bliss.

Or, for the cloth diapering parent, Ubbi offers a Cloth Pail Liner as a washable, odor-resistant and waterproof alternative. This 13-gallon bag with a drawstring closure makes the Ubbi Diaper Pail the only diaper pail option for cloth diaper users and a welcome, eco-friendly addition to the diaper pail market!

When it comes time to use the Diaper Pail, the ring handle on the top makes it easy to grab and slide the slot open with one hand (a necessity when you are holding a baby and/or a dirty diaper) and the space it provides is exactly the right size to drop that diaper right in.

The top then easily slides closed and you can feel it lift and seal tightly into place. This isn't another of those diaper pails that just claims to keep smells trapped inside, Ubbi really comes through on that promise!

In addition, Ubbi kept safety in mind in the design of their Diaper Pail by including a childproof safety lock right on the top. With one twist, the sliding lid stays firmly in place and there is no worry of little hands pulling this open or getting into a mess that no parent wants to have to clean up.

However, I find one of the major pluses of the Ubbi Diaper Pail is that it can be used long after you are done with diapers in your household. While I had a friend try this out for a while with her daughter's diapers to test the odor control (it passed with flying colors! No stink at all!) I also love the fact that I can place it right in my own home and have it complement the decor of a bathroom or non-nursery bedroom.

Who knew that a diaper pail could be this exciting? I've been nothing but impressed with the Ubbi Diaper Pail from top to bottom and would gladly trade any of our past pails for this one.

The steel construction is so much more sturdy and durable, it cleans easily both inside and out, it truly provides odor control, it is extremely easy to load, use and empty, and the ability to use any bags is economical, good for the environment (remember that it works with cloth diapers as well!) and fully convenient.

All those years that my husband and I spent struggling to get other diaper pails emptied without gagging over the smell and then reloading an expensive bag refill back in correctly... it could have all been solved with something much more versatile and high quality! Ubbi has found a way to keep nurseries safe, secure and attractive while providing a way to simplify parents' lives on multiple levels.

Although the Ubbi Diaper Pail retails for $79.99, which is slightly higher than other pails on the market, this easily pays for itself over time by not having to buy special bags and by being able to be used as a regular garbage can after diapers are done. One purchase (or item to add to a registry) and you're done!
