When it comes to food and drinks around here, the biggest issues that we face seem to be if someone has finished their glass of milk or if all of their green beans have been eaten.
As much as I know that I take our living situation for granted, it doesn't always seem to set in as much as when I'm reminded that things aren't the same for children in other parts of the world. I look at my two happy, healthy, fortunate girls and it makes my heart ache to know that over 4,000 children in developing countries die every day from illness and disease related to unsafe drinking water.
But while that number is overwhelmingly sad, it also leads to the Well, what can I do about it? feeling of wanting to make a difference but not knowing where to start.
Well, it starts now, as there is no better day than today, March 22nd, to join in helping support World Water Day.
International World Water Day is held annually on March 22nd as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World Water Day celebrations in the past have focused on themes such as water for cities, water quality, water scarcity and more.
Why is this all so important? Each of us needs to drink two to four liters of water every day, but it takes 2,000 to 5,000 liters of water to produce just one person's daily food. Today, there are over 7 billion people to feed on the planet and this number is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050.
That's a whole lot of water needed.
So, what can we do to ensure that we're doing our part to help solve the world water crisis while also providing clean water for our families?
The problem: Every 20 seconds, a child dies as a result of the abysmal sanitation conditions endured by some 2.6 billion people globally. That adds up to an unconscionable 1.5 million young lives cut short due to poor water conditions.
How to help: Through organizations including the Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program that provide a week's worth of clean water to children in the developing world when you purchase a PUR water filter. Even better, you can also visit the PUR Facebook page and donate clean water FOR FREE through the Daily Drop program every day.
What we need to know about our families' water: Although our tap water may look clean, it might still contain potentially harmful contaminants. Depending on where you live, your water can be contaminated with everything from industrial and agricultural pollutants to heavy metals, sediments and even trace levels of pharmaceuticals.
Not exactly what you want your family to be drinking, right? Fortunately, by using at home water filters, such as the PUR One-Click Faucet Mount, you can remove 99% of lead and microbial cysts with ease. With such a simple assembly and removal, there's never been an easier or more reliable way to get gallons of clean, healthy, great-tasting water.
Water scarcity already affects almost all continents and more than 40 percent of the people on our planet. Currently, already 1.6 billion people live in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity and by 2025 two-thirds of the world's population could be living under water stressed conditions. Do you plan on stepping up to make a difference?
Be sure to visit World Water Day to find out much more about this annual event and how important it is for all of us to do our part, as well as heading over to the PUR Facebook page to donate clean water — there's just no reason not to!
And, thanks to the generosity of PUR, one person will be on the path to safe, clean water right at home as well, because...

We have a pitcher that filters water. This would be much easier.

i buy bottled water to ensure its clean and safe
cpsnsamples@aol.com
We use a whole house filter.
We drink, almost exclusively, water and mineral water - it is bottled though. We are surrounded by farms and I am paranoid about run off pesticides in the well water :(
We have well water and it doesn't taste so great, so I purchase bottled water and I try to keep track of what each of us drinks each day to make sure we get enough.
