But, in reality, there are more factors that should be taken into account, namely where did this come from? And, more importantly, how did it get here and how was the farmer, grower or producer treated? As much as we would all like to think that our food came from the sunny, idyllic farms filled with laughing children that we see in television commercials, that's sadly not the case.
Fortunately, there are brands that make it possible to buy an amazing product while also being proud to support their business. And that's where Green Mountain Coffee comes in, as they are dedicated to providing the richest aroma and flavor and the highest quality coffee experience while continuing to be a leader in the fair trade movement.
October is Fair Trade Month and for more than a decade, Green Mountain Coffee has been providing a better cup of coffee to consumers and a better quality of life for coffee farmers. Still, only one in three consumers are aware of what fair trade is all about – that a simple purchasing decision can help improve the lives of people around the world.
So, to celebrate Fair Trade Month, Green Mountain Coffee and acclaimed musicians Grace Potter and Michael Franti have teamed up as part of Great Coffee, Good Vibes, Pass It On, a campaign designed to increase awareness for fair trade and the positive impact it has on farmers all over the world.
As part of the campaign, earlier this year Green Mountain Coffee took Grace Potter to Colombia and Michael Franti to Sumatra to experience firsthand why fair trade means better coffee for you and a better life for farmers as it positively impacts the lives of each farmer and their family.
"During my trip to Colombia, I didn’t just meet the coffee farmers, I met their children and their families," said Potter. "Fair trade has truly brought a better quality of life to farming communities, from access to education to community development, and meeting with these people really opened my eyes to the impact fair trade has had on their lives."
Fans can view photos and videos from Potter and Franti's trips to Colombia and Sumatra by logging on to the Green Mountain Coffee Facebook page. You then have the chance to receive samples or coupons... and be sure to watch Franti's video so that you can enter for a chance to win a trip of your own for two to Costa Rica!
To take things even further and "raise the volume" on fair trade and this awareness campaign, Potter and Franti will each give exclusive, solo, live-streamed performances that you're not going to want to miss. Simply tune in on Facebook on October 9 at 9pm EST to see Grace Potter live in concert and on October 24 at 10:30pm EST to see Michael Franti.
It is no secret that Green Mountain Coffee travels the globe to purchase the finest coffees, batch roast them to peak flavor, and vacuum package them fresh for your enjoyment.
But as well as investing in a better cup of coffee, your purchase will help ensure that farmers get a fair price for their beans, working conditions are improved, and farming communities can be developed with new schools, roads, health clinics and safer drinking water.
Aren't those all things that we are happy to support? I don't know about you, but finding coffee that tastes good while doing good makes it just all that much better.
Thanks to the generosity of Green Mountain Coffee, one person is soon going to have a reason to love their cup of coffee a little bit more as well, because...
One lucky person will win one bag of Fair Trade Certified Green Mountain Coffee and one box of K-cups in their choice of Sumatran, Colombian or Pumpkin Spice blend!
