Whether they are focusing on a company, supporting a cause, giving advice or just to talk, these parties are typically fast-paced, filled with chatter and often involve a handful of prizes. No matter if you're a fan of the format or not, there are times when you just can't help but be impressed with the way that social media can bring attention to a good cause.
This right here, this is one of those times.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to co-host a Twitter party that is in conjunction with (what could possibly be) the first-ever Twitter auction, hosted by Olympic soccer star Julie Foudy!
Julie Foudy, the former USA Women's Soccer Team Captain, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time World Cup Champion, successfully launched the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy (the "JFSLA") in the summer of 2006.
The JFSLA is a five-night, six-day residential Academy for girls ages 12-18. The Academy focuses on two overlapping components — sports and leadership. The aim of the JFSLA is to expose students to Julie's great passion: the concept of not just being a leader on the field but a leader in life.
Currently, the JFSLA is hosting a "Choose to Matter" contest, encouraging moms and daughters to perform acts of kindness in their communities and then share their stories for a chance to win a trip to Disney World (find out more information here about this contest).
To champion the cause, Julie and her own young daughter, Izzy, have decided to host a series of auctions to raise money for charity, and the first one will take place on Twitter next Wednesday, November 7, at 1p ET. We'll be auctioning off one of Izzy's dolls in addition to a signed Abby Wambach soccer jersey. We'll also host four giveaways for VISA gift cards to help people fund their own mother-daughter charitable efforts!
