While there are some days that I shave off a few minutes by throwing pre-packaged snacks in their lunches or pulling on yesterday's sweatpants to get us out the door quicker, there is one part of our routine that we don't skip: eating breakfast.
You've heard it before, and it's completely true. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day! After eight to 12 hours without eating, our bodies and brains are ready to refuel — particularly kids.
We've also all heard the stats that kids who eat breakfast achieve higher standardized test scores, have an easier time concentrating, and in general have a healthier weight.
In fact, more than a quarter-century of research supports a positive link between breakfast and mental and physical performance. So, encouraging your kids to eat breakfast will not only help them get the most out of their education, but put them on the right path to a better life for their mind and body!
But, let's face it. On those mornings that already feel crazy and busy, the idea of putting together a full buffet breakfast is just not a possibility. Fortunately, we can all rest assured that we're still promoting healthy habits and giving kids the nutrients they need to start their day with a breakfast classic... a bowl of Kellogg's cereal with milk!
It's easy to Love Your Cereal! Did you know that a nutritious breakfast is as simple as a bowl of cereal plus milk? This dynamic duo can actually provide three of the four nutrients most lacking in kids' diets, including calcium, vitamin D and potassium.
And, while I've sometimes worried about starting my girls' day with too much sugar, it has been proven that, on average, breakfast cereal provides only 4% of the average person's daily intake of added sugar in the U.S. Add that with the fact that cereal is nearly always paired with milk, and the importance of pouring a big bowl of cereal in the morning just got even more beneficial.
I love knowing that by offering my family a variety of good-for-you, get-you-going Kellogg's cereals, that we have a delicious and easy way to give them a taste they enjoy with the nutrition they need — all in a meal that is quick to prepare and can be eaten at home or on the go.
As an even bigger benefit, a single bowl of Kellogg's cereal with milk can be enjoyed for less than 50¢, which is much cheaper than many other popular breakfast choices. Considering that this affordable combination is the leading source of 10 nutrients in the diet of U.S. children, it truly makes it a valuable way to start the day while sticking to your budget.
Nine out of ten moms agree that cereal makes a convenient breakfast choice, are you one of them? Cereal can help provide important nutrition for people of all life stages, so you don't have to be a kid to enjoy all the benefits of cereal. If you're like us, you'll want to visit LoveYourCereal.com to see even more ways that cereal makes so much sense for your family.
Thanks to the generosity of Kellogg's and their belief in the benefits of starting the day off right with breakfast, one lucky person will be prepared to wake up to an extra tasty surprise, because...
