Before our children were born, my husband and I took all of the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Locks on the cabinets to keep dangerous chemicals away, special knobs on the doors so that no one could fall down the stairs, the highest rated car seats for protection when traveling, and more.

However, as with many aspects of parenting, as the years have gone by, we have become more and more lax (partially due to trust... and partially due to laziness).

Even though I know my kids well enough to know that they are both extremely responsible, that doesn't mean that it doesn't make me feel like I'm not exactly doing a stellar job as a mother when I open my own silverware drawer and it looks like this:
