InnoTab 3S Wi-Fi Learning App Tablet {Review & Giveaway}

While attending the open house at Big Sister E's school recently, she proudly showed us around and pointed out the various rooms in which she spends her day: art, music, gym, technology, etc.

So, what do you do in here? My husband asked her, as she showed us her assigned computer in the technology room.

As she proceeded to point out the various posters showing shortcuts, computer commands, the layout of the keys and more, I marveled at the differences between what she learns in school these days as compared to what I learned decades ago. Learning to type in first grade? I'm pretty sure I didn't know what typing was until high school.

But with the way that technology surrounds today's children from the moment they are born, it's no surprise that I can already foresee my girls being light years more tech-smart than me by the time they grow up — that's where the future is headed!

Fortunately, I don't have to hand over my iPad (or purchase them their own tablets) just yet, as the combination of the fragile construction and the free-for-all access to the internet makes my heart race.

Considering how much my kids have enjoyed playing and learning with past InnoTab versions, I knew they would be beside themselves to see the changes that have been made in the InnoTab 3S.

Right away I found that this new version resembled the previous with its colorful appearance, durable design and stylus (love that this one comes with two stylus in case one is lost as well as a cord to connect the stylus to the device itself!) but there was no way to miss the rechargeable battery packs to install in the back and the large Wi-Fi symbol on the front.

As opposed to purchasing more and more batteries or dealing with rechargeable ones that continue to be pulled out to plug in separately, the fact that the InnoTab 3S can simply be plugged right in with an AC adapter makes me swoon.

Every little added convenience makes life easier and now, instead of my kids coming to me over and over to get their batteries out to be recharged, they can just plug their InnoTab 3S into the wall on their own. LOVE it!

Along with the addition of the AC adapter, the InnoTab 3S includes a kid-safe web browser on the Wi-Fi connection, allowing children access to age-appropriate websites vetted by VTech's educational experts.

No worrying if they'll start watching videos that you don't want them to see on YouTube, they will only be able to visit the sites that VTech and parents (who have the ability to add additional websites using a password protected feature) have allowed!

Along with access to the internet, the InnoTab 3S includes VTech's ground-breaking communication app, VTech Kid Connect. This innovative addition is the fast and easy way to brings families together and help parents stay connected to their kids when apart – anytime, anywhere – through both tablet-to-mobile and tablet-to-tablet communication.

How cool is that?! Kids can send text messages and animated stickers right to their parents' smartphones. In return, parents can send text messages and stickers back to their child's InnoTab 3S, opening up an interactive dialogue.

Plus, kids can stay connected to their friends and siblings by sending messages safely between two InnoTab 3S tablets. And since all communication is approved by parents, they can rest assured their child is only communicating with people they know and trust, making VTech Kid Connect a true breakthrough in kid-safe family networking. 

Overall, this portable, multi-media tablet (available in blue or pink) is able to provide fun and education for 3- to 9-year-olds through the opportunity to learn basic skills including math, vocabulary, spelling, reading, logic, drawing and more. But since kids will have so much fun playing with it, they most likely won't even realize that they are learning as well!

I also appreciate that VTech included 4 GB of internal memory and an SD card slot for memory expansion so that your child can save their games, artistic creations, and more right on their InnoTab 3S. At the same time, connecting this device to a PC/Mac is easy with the included USB cable, so going online to browse or download the hundreds of available apps is quick and easy.

As with previous versions, the InnoTab 3S continues to provide access to VTech’s Learning Lodge app store, plus it comes packed with 20 free apps — a magical beanstalk growing game; a directional pad game, H2O Go!, that teaches science concepts through an animated drop of water; and a pop-up 3D art studio so kids can explore their creative side.

More creativity can be found in the WonderCam app, which lets kids add more than 55 special effects, funny faces and photo frames to pictures, the built in eReader that provides interactive, animated e-books and so much more. With such a wide variety of ways to learn and so many options for fun, this is one toy that does it all!
