Along with enjoying the drop in humidity and the beautiful colors of the leaves, it's also time to give our culinary skills an update by incorporating the sweet fruity flavor of fall apples into recipes whenever possible.
Which is why now is the perfect time to create all sorts of tasty menu additions with the rich flavor of Musselman's Apple Butter.
A gluten-free, dairy-free, highly concentrated form of applesauce, apple butter can be used individually as a yummy spread or in any number of dishes to give a rich apple zing. This unique, versatile ingredient is just the thing to reach for to celebrate fall!
While Musselman's has always offered a wide variety of great recipes to get you started (or to inspire you to create your own), they have now also made it possible to find even more delicious options with their new Apple Butter e-recipe book. Download it for free and get cooking!
With such a large number of tasty-looking recipes in the e-recipe book, I didn't know where to begin... and then Musselman's sent over a few ingredients to inspire me even further!
As I'm fairly certain that I have never met a fruity bread or cake that I haven't liked, I knew that I couldn't pass up trying the Spiced Apple Cake with Orange Glaze first.
After all, these cute little loaves looked extremely easy to make, very delicious to eat, and something that the whole family would enjoy munching on or giving as gifts. Let's get baking!
Spiced Apple Cake with Orange Glaze
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
¾ cup sugar
½ cup butter
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk
1 cup Musselman's Apple Butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp orange juice
1 tsp orange peel
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Sift flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves.
Cream sugar and softened butter or margarine in large bowl. Add eggs, beating thoroughly. Beat in dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Stir in apple butter.
Pour into a greased 9" x 5" x 3" loaf pan (to make small individual cakes for gift giving, use four 6" x 2½" x 2" pans and be sure to adjust baking times for the smaller pans).
Bake in 350°F oven 55 to 65 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan.
Make orange glaze by combining powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange peel. Spoon glaze over warm cake.
Mmmmmm! I love the way that the rich apple flavor of Musselman's Apple Butter is throughout the entire cake and that the sweet orange glaze on the top complements it just right.
Each bite is melt-in-your-mouth yummy so, even if you have plans to gift them, be sure to leave at least one for yourself as well because you're not going to want to miss reaching for a slice (or two) (or more).
When it comes time to prep for a gathering or gift-giving or simply to incorporate a mouthwatering product into your autumn meals – whether cooking, baking, spread on bread or more – Musselman's Apple Butter can add an unexpected, flavorful kick to your favorite recipes, dips and sauces.

ReplyDeleteEasy Skillet Apple Pie
Ingredients
2 pounds Granny Smith apples
2 pounds Braeburn apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 (14.1-oz.) package refrigerated piecrusts $
1 egg white $
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Butter-pecan ice cream
Preparation 1. Preheat oven to 350º. Peel apples, and cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges. Toss apples with cinnamon and 3/4 cup granulated sugar.
2. Melt butter in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat; add brown sugar, and cook, stirring constantly, 1 to 2 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, and place 1 piecrust in skillet over brown sugar mixture. Spoon apple mixture over piecrust, and top with remaining piecrust. Whisk egg white until foamy. Brush top of piecrust with egg white; sprinkle with 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar. Cut 4 or 5 slits in top for steam to escape.
3. Bake at 350º for 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly, shielding with aluminum foil during last 10 minutes to prevent excessive browning, if necessary. Cool on a wire rack 30 minutes before serving. Serve with butter-pecan ice cream.
