Games! Board games, card games, video games, it doesn't matter! Big Sister E has long reached the age where she enjoys the interaction, entertainment and strategic thinking involved with games and Little Sister B is plenty old enough that she can play along with the majority of games that we play as well.
The only problems that we tend to run into are attention spans that run out, waiting patiently to take turns and the big one: winning and losing. Yes, learning to deal with the disappointment of losing is necessary in life, but the competitive side to playing games can often make it difficult to play with young children and not result in sadness. Who wants to lose?
Not wanting my children to grow up having been "let win" too often and yet not develop a jaded view of games if indeed they continue to lose, I love knowing that there are innovative companies like Wonder Forge that not only create products and games that educate and inspire, but promote cooperation, creativity and fun.
A Seattle company that creates good-for-you games that promote active-play and teamwork for children and families, Wonder Forge preschool games boost self-confidence by giving kids a chance to discover what they can do.
Featuring beloved characters and games that have kids running, sliding, hiding, seeking, sorting, stretching, and exploring, these active, engaging games are the perfect alternatives to TV and video games.
Each time I've browsed Wonder Forge's website, quite a few of their top games catch my eye. And, living in the Disney-loving household as I do, as soon as I saw the World of Disney Eye Found it! Game, the Disney Sofia the First Magical Tea Time Game and the Doc McStuffins All Better! Game, I knew that they would be a huge hit.
A jumbo-sized fun time for all, the World of Disney Eye Found it! Game brings players on a cooperative race through twelve exquisitely illustrated Disney worlds.
Right away I could tell that the whole family was going to enjoy seeing so many of our Disney favorites illustrated on this 6-foot game board (Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Phineas and Ferb, Monsters, Inc. and many more) and that the unique "search and find" objective of the game would keep everyone engaged.
As players race against the clock and work together to make it to Cinderella's castle before midnight, the spinner decides whether your turn involves moving forward, changing the time on the clock or searching the board.
If you spin the golden Mickey Mouse ears, flip over a Search Card and everyone starts looking for the item on the card. This not only gives a fun chance to look closely and discover even more intricate Disney details hidden on the board...
...but it offers the opportunity to strengthen observation skills, attention to detail, object identification, matching skills and more.
Even better, as all players explore the board and find the object — for instance, stairs — they place adorable Mouse-Ear Tokens to mark the spot (and what kid wouldn't love being a part of that?) and then all players move forward the total number of spaces. Teamwork!
With over 1,000 hidden treasures on the board, children of all ages will stay engaged and having fun throughout the various worlds of Disney included in this game. It's just so much fun to see such iconic Disney objects while having the opportunity to race together to win as a group!
The World of Disney Eye Found it! Game is recommended for ages 5+, has a retail price of $19.99 and can be purchased from Amazon.com.
While my girls have had a great time enjoying Disney as a whole with Eye Found It!, they have also really loved getting to focus on two of their favorite new characters as well... and it hasn't been hard to see why.
It's time for tea with Princess Sofia in the Sofia the First Magical Tea Time Game, a princess-tea-party-themed matching game. The combination of the uncomplicated directions and the colorful, charming pieces in this game make it a fun time for preschoolers everywhere.
I love that the basis of this game is simple and that play occurs by simply selecting and flipping over one of the colorful, detailed little treat cards and following the color or symbol on the back.
From collecting treats to "pouring tea" (as the magical, squishy teapot blows air on the tea, it causes the color to change!) to making matches, this game also includes the ability to earn extra points as players practice good tea time manners.
It all adds up to a very cute way for ages 3+ to enjoy taking part in a girly party with one of their favorite Disney characters!
With an MSRP of $19.99, the Sofia the First Magical Tea Time Game is available now on Amazon.com and at Toys 'R Us.
When we're not busy being princesses at tea, the Doc McStuffins All Better! Game is the perfect way to make the boo-boos go away in this creative and fun twist on a traditional memory game.
Including a variety of colorful and whimsical doctors' tools, this game involves players taking turns trying to match the correct tool to the coordinating slap bracelet bandage. Who can be sad about having a mystery ouchie when it's just so much fun to make it better?
As with our Sofia the First game, Wonder Forge made this Doc McStuffins game one of simple problem-solving, so that kids can stay entertained while also participating in pretend play with a character that they know and love.
After a spin on the unique doctor-themed spinner...
...it's time to place a bandage or test your memory trying to match up a tool with the bandages on various players' arms. My girls end up giggling profusely as they reach for the cute foam tools to make their guesses!
Available at Walmart or on Amazon.com with an MSRP of $24.99, the Doc McStuffins All Better! Game is designed for ages 3+ and, even after actual "game play" is over, kids have a great time using the pieces to diagnose and treat family members, stuffed animals and more.
Even better, all of the pieces then store right in the adorable doctors' bag so that you don't have to worry about losing cards or tools for next time!
If you're looking for a captivating game that the children in your life are sure to enjoy this holiday season, visit WonderForge.com (and connect with them on Facebook and Twitter) to see their expanding product line and the education and entertainment that they can bring to your home.
With everything from active, adventurous play for little pirates to action-packed games of teamwork and special powers to just about everything in between, you're sure to find the award-winning games that the boys and girls in your life will enjoy for quite some time to come. I couldn't be happier that my girls are practicing positive game-playing skills while, at the same time, having such a good time searching the world of Disney, pouring tea or tending to injured patients!
And, thanks to the generosity of Wonder Forge, one person will be able to provide the child in their life with an entertaining, cooperative good time as well, because...
One lucky person will win a World of Disney Eye Found it! Game
